Wicklow's Finest

(Pix. Brian McEvoy)

Wicklow Way: 1. Veronica Timlin & Gerald Keane; 2. Crystal Swing; 3. Noirin Kelly & Rosanna Davison.

The East coast is alive and kicking and now even more so with new club The Venue at The Grand Hotel in Wicklow. The opening weekend was hosted by Wicklow native Rosanna Davison who also announced that the search for a girl to represent Wicklow in this year’s final of Miss Universe Ireland had begun and will be ongoing exclusively at The Venue.

Crystal Swing rolled into town for the opening along with Fair City actress Sorcha Furlong, Big Brother’s Noirin Kelly, Gerald Kean and his fiancĂ© Lisa Murphy. A name I’m sure you’ll be familiar with soon enough is Niamh Wade, local radio presenter and aspiring TV star. Niamh’s got big ambitions and judging by her positive attitude she’ll get where she’s going fast.

I was also delighted to see legendary photographer Robert Doyle there. As some of you will know Robert was once the foremost social snapper in Ireland but traded in that lifestyle when he set up a rustic restaurant called Halpins Bridge Cafe in Wicklow town. Does he miss the social scene? Not in the slightest he told me.

The Venue will open every weekend with live comedy, bands and dancing into the early hours, so if you’re down Wicklow way of a night pop by (and call into Halpins for a full Irish the next morning).
