The old warehouse on Sir John Rogerson’s Quay played host to hundreds of guests who turned out to support the new initiative.

Enthusiastically supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture and Sport; Dublin Contemporary will place the best of Irish and international contemporary art centre-stage. In turn it will act as a catalyst that will attract the lucrative cultural tourist market into the country and in doing so bring €13.5 million into the Irish economy.

Dublin Contemporary 2011 will be a city-wide cultural event that will energise and delight our city with some of the best contemporary art in the world. It will be a clear demonstration of our country’s capacity to provide world-class cultural events for both ourselves and the thousands of cultural tourists who make Dublin a priority destination.

Taking place between September 6th and October 31st 2011 the event will be sited in some of the city’s best known landmarks including IMMA, Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane, the Royal Hibernian Academy, the Irish Film Institute and the James Joyce Tower. The total exhibition space will be over 100,000 square feet and will also include found spaces, libraries and music venues; spaces not normally associated with the visual arts.

The Divine Comedy has been responsible for some of the lushest, most literate and downright catchy popular music of the past couple of decades.

Hannon’s song writing genius has taken him from writing the theme song of Father Ted to the smash-hit National Express. It was a magical evening of music, thrills and sophistication in Killruddery’s Orangerie
