Glencairn, the British Ambassadors imposing residence in Sandyford, Co. Dublin, was the location for a very special event starring the director of the Gate theatre Michael Colgan. A group of close friends gathered to see him invested as an OBE (Officer of the British Empire) by the Ambassador, H.E. Julian King.

Awarded the prestigious accolade for his services to culture relations between the UK and Ireland, Colgan was understandably delighted with the award and said that it should be shared by all who have worked with him over the years at the Gate theatre.

Among the guests at the ceremony were Sir Michael Gambon, Paul McGuinness and Kathy Gilfillan, Paolo Tulio and Marian Kenny, Loretta Brennan Glucksman, Harry Crosbie and Gay Byrne.

This is not the first time Michael Colgan has be honoured, in 2007 he was also awarded with the Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Government.
