A host of well-known names and faces celebrated in the name of charity
and children recently. The 85th Variety World Conference took place
in Dublin and the Variety Club Humanitarian Awards gala ceremony at The
Burlington Hotel was part of the series of events.
US President Barack Obama sent good wishes for this massive
charity drive, along with HRH Prince Philip; the British and Canadian,
Australian and New Zealand Prime Ministers and our own President Michael. D
Higgins.
Three Irish Humanitarians were
honoured by Variety International on the night.
Derek O'Neill,
international Humanitarian and Philanthropist; Caroline Downey-Desmond, charity fundraiser, director of
MCD and Event Producer of the annual Childline concert and Dr. Fin Breatnach, Consultant
Paediatric Oncologist, formerly with Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin
and Barretstown, retired and working with an oncology colleague in Tanzania offering
healthcare advice in haematology and oncology.
