Johnny Was

The World premier of Johnny Was took place in Cineworld as part of the Jameson Dublin International film Festival on Wednesday night. Starring Vinnie Jones, Eric La Salle, Patrick Bergin, Samantha Mumba, Roger Daltry and Lennox Lewis, it tells the story of a former bad boy who gets caught up in a maelstrom of drugs, violence and murder. Johnny Was is a darkly funny multi-racial thriller in the vein of Sexy Beast and The Long Good Friday. It’s a gangster flick with attitude.

Jones was unable to attend as he was in L.A. shooting another movie but cast and crew were well represented at the screening. I met the director Mark Hammond at the Jameson after party in JM Keatings and he informed me that he has already started shooting his next movie and will be on location in South Africa for the next number of months.

I also bumped into top model Glenda Gilson who will make her acting debut very soon. Glenda will appear in the Vagina Monologues, which will be performed in Spirit from the 6th of March. She is, understandably, a bit nervous but is excited about this new direction.

Publisher Michael O’Doherty, Sonia Harris, actor Liam Cunningham, Antonia Leslie, Sinead NĂ Chonaill and Paul Trainer, Jayne Murphy and Laurence Kinlan were also in attendance.
