World Snow Day

We may have missed the show drifts that Met Eireann promised this week but it certainly looks like a white weekend ahead in Kilternan, Co Dublin.  Irish World Snow Day takes place this Sunday (January 20th) at Kilternan Ski Club and the whole family can experience the joy of snow with a day of free-style ski jumping, Norwegian Ski Hill tubing and free styling.

Kilternan is one of 72 locations across the world that will celebrate World Snow Day. Here skiers of all abilities are invited to test their nerves on Ireland’s only ski jump followed by some tubing down the new state of the art ski slope.  You can also test your strengths on Ireland’s highest climbing wall while you’re at it.

You don't have to know anything about skiing or snowboarding to participate - just bring an open mind and the willingness to have a great time. There will even be free admission and parking on the day.

Ski Club President Robert Norwood is delighted that Ireland is involved with such an important day: "We want to communicate that winter sports are something for everyone. We wish to encourage young children to take to the snow for the first time and hope to foster a future generation of snow lovers."

Well known fine jewellery store Weir & Sons invited a host of loyal customers to their annual festive evening in their iconic Grafton Street premises recently. Guests were treated to seasonal drinks and canapés while they perused the many premium brands available such as Patek Philippe, Rolex, Cartier, Chopard and Mikimoto.

Guests were also able to experience how a sculptor from well known Spanish brand Lladro prepares one of its famous porcelain pieces. All Lladro pieces are handmade and guests were able to witness Raúl Rubio as he went about the intricate process of making one of these exclusive pieces of sculpture.

Weir & Sons Marketing Director, Chris Andrews, explains how he is “delighted to have Raúl here with us tonight. Customers can see the many fine Lladro pieces we have on sale here in Weir & Sons, but now they can also experience the very detailed and precise work that goes into producing
one of these pieces.”

Weir & Sons was established in 1869 and over the years has welcomed many famous faces including Walt Disney, Rita Hayworth and Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco.  Among those at the party were Ali Toolan, Ann Cheung, Gemma and Michael Maughan and Tina Koumarianos.

There were a number of bright young couples in attendance on the evening, shopping for engagement rings for a festive proposition perhaps?  Well, diamonds are a girl’s best friend!

Ireland’s top fashion media descended upon Marks & Spencer’s Rooftop Restaurant in the Grafton Street store for the unveiling of the store’s elegant autumn winter collection.

Super stylist Catherine Condell produced the up tempo and directional show, which focussed on the major trends for the season including Modern Military, Demure, 21st Century Remix, Arts & Crafts and Gothic Romance. Guests were also treated to a sneak peek of the gorgeous new Rosie for Autograph lingerie collection which was recently launched in store to great acclaim.

Former Miss Ireland Olivia Treacy, who flew home from LA for the show, looked regal as she showcased the hottest looks for the new season, while top models Irma Mali, Teodora Sutra, Sarah Morrissey and Karen Fitzpatrick also turned heads as they took to the catwalk.  Key pieces from the show included the iconic Autograph digital print dress, an Autograph military coat and a per una leather dress, which looked super on model Yomiko Chen.

The FROW was full of fashion savvy guests including Celia Holman Lee, Cathy O’Connor, Ingrid Hoey, Angela Scanlon and Courtney Smith all enthusiastically discussing their favourite looks from the show.

Among the other guests were TV3’s Alan Hughes, Glenda Gilson and Debbie O’Donnell.  Stylish duo Bridget Coffey and Liz Greene attended on behalf of the British Embassy, while Louise Heraghty from 2FM caught up with the ever-glamorous Lorraine Keane and Lisa Fitzpatrick.
