Cari lunch 2013

Miriam Ahern hosted her annual summer fashion show in aid of CARI sponsored by RTÉ Radio 1 and M&S at The Shelbourne Hotel Dublin recently. 

Glamorous and stylish ladies, dressed in chic summer looks, were out to enjoy what is regarded as a highlight of the social calendar.  The afternoon began with a champagne reception after which a chic fashion show by Karen Millen, Marks & Spencer and Cari’s Closet.  Each of the stores showcased their summer collections 2013.

The show was followed by a delicious four-course gourmet lunch with wines sponsored by M&S.   The charismatic Alan Hughes from TV3 was the MC for the afternoon.   After lunch guests were entertained by energetic accordion player Liam O’Connor.  The day came to an end after a fun filled raffle with the help of Brenda Donohue from RTÉ Radio 1.

Guests who are attended on the day included Miriam Ahern and her partner Terry McCoy, her daughters Georgina Byrne and Cecelia Ahern,  charity supporter Roz Flanagan, TV3’s Sinead Desmond, singer Brian Kennedy and Virginia Macari, to name but a few.  Triona McCarthy made her social debut after having baby Maxim recently, she looked radiant and content in the extreme.

CARI provides a professional child therapy and counselling service to children and families who have been affected by child sexual abuse.   There are almost 3,000 allegations of child sexual abuse in Ireland each year and CARI provides services to children who are struggling to deal with what they have been through. 

Due to cutbacks in funding waiting lists in CARI have now extended to a year. There are today fifty children on waiting lists who need therapy now, not in a year’s time.

Get in the Game

As thousands of rugby fans descended upon Dublin for the Heineken Cup Final at the Aviva, the focal point of the pre-match build up, for ticketed or ticketless fans, centred on ‘Heineken Get in the Game Clubhouse’ a custom built, rugby-festival area on the grounds of The Ballsbridge Hotel. 

Offering pre, during and post match entertainment, the Heineken Get in the Game Clubhouse is a marquee area where tiered seating, virtual kicking games, live music, interactive Twitter projections and delicious food all combine to complement ice-cold Heineken and exhilarating rugby. 

Brent Pope, Shane Byrne, Kathryn Thomas and Pay Kenny were amongst some of Ireland’s most loved personalities who were at ‘Heineken Get in the Game Clubhouse’ for the pre-match build up.

Alber Elbaz for Lancome

Lancôme's preview of a new range at The Exchequer Room at Fallon & Byrne was a big occasion recently.  It was the private unveiling of the Lancome Show range, which is the result of an exceptional collaboration with one of the most highly-acclaimed names in fashion: Alber Elbaz.

The Alber Elbaz Show for Lancome sees this fashion genius create four unique outfits for four legends of Lancôme make-up: Alber Elbaz lends his unmistakable style to four worldwide bestselling Lancôme mascaras.

Guests on the evening included the glowing Claire Byrne, who recently announced her pregnancy. Expecting her first child in October, Claire is engaged to  Gerry Scollan . Xpose Series Producer, Debbie O’Donnell stepped out, leaving baby Sam at home for the first evening. Karen Koster joined her on the evening. Karen, who is getting married next month to John Maguire, spoke excitedly about her forthcoming nuptuals.

Another bride in the room was Dyane Connor, the TV3 and her fiancé flew to Italy last week only to fall more deeply in love with their chosen venue.  Avila Lipsett explained her new venuture, The Black Door, is proving extremely popular with the ‘in’ crew and over 30’s to an excited Nuala Carey who promised to visit in the near future. 

And of course top beauty experts were keen to get a first glimpse of the collection that will be showcased to the world from mid-June and available to buy in department stores in Ireland from July 1.

The Hibernia College IRUPA Rugby Players’ Awards 2013 took place at the Burlington Hotel. The ultimate accolade of Hibernia College Player’s Player of the year 2013 went to Ulster No. 8 Nick Williams. Guests on the night included rugby stars such as Brian O’Driscoll, Rob Kearney, Leo Cullen, Simon Zebo, Cian Healy, Paul O’Connell and many more.

Newly appointed Irish rugby coach Joe Schmidt was also in attendance as well as former Irish and Leinster rugby star Denis Hickie who was inducted into the IRUPA BNY Mellon IRUPA Hall of Fame 2013.  Chief Executive of IRUPA Omar Hassanein greeted guests along with President and founder of Hibernia College Dr. Sean Rowland, and rugby legend Ben Kay MC'd the night where Irish rugby players from different provinces were celebrated for their outstanding performances throughout the year.

Guests enjoyed a Heineken and Wolf Blass reception before the awards ceremony and all the winners receive an inscribed Citizen Skyhawk watch kindly provided by Fields Jewellers.

Peroni Design Awards

Matteo Alessi officially launched the Peroni Design Awards at the opening of the exhibition Icons of Italian Design in The Gallery of Photography, Meeting House Square, Dublin 2.

The national design competition, organised by Peroni Nastro Azzurro, the premium Italian beer brand,  is seeking to push the boundaries of excellence and design by challenging designers to create an original item to enhance the enjoyment of Peroni during a special occasion.

The competition will be fronted and judged by Matteo Alessi, of international design house Alessi, in conjunction with key members of the Institute of Designers in Ireland (IDI) and Design Week 2013 with the winner receiving a €2,000 cash prize.
